There is no recorded date of Raphael being ordained a Priest (age 19, in 1918), but we do know that Raphael was serving in the United States Army of WWI during that time. He served for a short time when the war was winding down. It ended November 11, 1918. Included is a copy of Raphael's military registration card containing his signature, serial number, etc. Note that there are no dates on the card except his age, but showed his occupation as Farmer, and his employer as J.W. Christensen, Fairview, Sanpete County, UT. Raphael may have continued in the service after the close of the war until a designated commitment was up. Research of Utah state records proved to be fruitless - no discharge record could be found. It was discovered that Utah did not keep military discharge records at that time. However, Raphael was issued a Certificate of Military Service from The State of Utah, signed by Utah State Governor Simon Bamberger in 1919.

Patriarchal Blessing
March 5, 1924 Number 11949
A BLESSING GIVEN BY HYRUM G. SMITH, PATRIARCH, UPON THE HEAD OF RAPHAEL CLEMENT, son of Darius Albert Clement and Mary Ann (Cox) Clement.
Born September 3, 1899, at Fairview, Sanpete County, Utah. BROTHER RAPHAEL CLEMENT: According to thy desire and by virtue of the Holy Priesthood I place my hands upon thy head and as the Spirit of the Lord shall direct me give unto thee thy Patriarchal blessing for thy comfort and benefit that it may be a guide to thy pathway and an anchor to thy soul with the Lord forever because of thy faithfulness. Thou art of the lineage of Ephraim who was the chosen son of Joseph who was sold into Egypt. Thou art born of goodly parents and have need to be grateful for the blessings of thy birthright.
And, if thou wilt prepare thyself in purity and in faithfulness thou shalt be magnified in positions of leadership and shall bear the Holy Priesthood which will enable thee to secure blessings which the Lord has prepared for the faithful in the House of Israel according to the New and the Everlasting Covenant, which it is thy right to enjoy through thy preparation and faithfulness. Therefore, shrink not from thy duties, neither from thy responsibilities, nor procrastinate the day of thy privileges to secure and enjoy the blessings which the Lord has prepared for the faithful in the House of Israel in these the last days.
And through faithfulness and diligence and purity of life thou shalt be crowned with the blessings of honorable fatherhood and enjoy the fruits of thy labors in righteousness, temporally as well as spiritually. Thou shalt be enabled to meet thy righteous obligations through honest dealings with thy fellowmen, forgetting not the Lord in the blessings that come into thy possession, both small and great. And through faithfulness and diligence in preparation it will be thy duty and thy privilege to go forward as a missionary teaching the truth among kindred and the nations of the world. For thou shalt be remembered in mercy.
If thou wilt follow the whisperings of that Still Small Voice which will be thy guide day and night, thou shalt be guided and directed in the way of safety and the doors of both friends and strangers will be opened to thee; and thy influence shall be felt for good in their midst, and thy teachings bear fruits that will gladden thy heart and be a blessing both unto thee and unto them. Therefore, prepare thyself in diligence, in humility, keeping thy trust in the Lord and forgetting not the blessings of thy birthright, but striving diligently to prepare for them and the Lord will not forget nor forsake thee. Go forward, therefore, in humility and in faithfulness, guarding well thy habits, profiting by the experiences of the past, for the Lord has heard thy prayers and has overlooked thy follies and will continue to strengthen thee in faith, in body and in mind through thy purity and thine obedience. And as long as thou wilt be true to thy righteous convictions and keep thy trust in the Lord thou shalt triumph over the designs of the Adversary and over weaknesses of the flesh and shall be preserved from danger both seen and unseen, and live to fulfill thy mission upon the earth in honor.
I seal these blessings upon thy head through thy faithfulness. For thou art an heir to these precious blessings through faithfulness. And thou shalt come forth in a glorious resurrection with thy kindred and many friends, which blessings I seal upon thy head by virtue of the Holy Priesthood and in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
